  1. It had everything to be an ordinary witch-house vid, if it wasn’t the music (of course witch-house itself has its burden of it - and by “it”, I mean hip-hop). Video-teaser for Mikyflex latest “Dark Tape”, available here.

  2. As it’s widely known, Branches / Pedro Rios released yesterday on Solid Melts the cassette “Ninguém É Como Tu” (for those who don’t speak Portuguese, means something as “you’re unique”, or literally “no one is like you”). You can listen part of the record below. The artist says this song in particular is dedicated to a beautiful friend of his.

  3. Woow. We’ve following Branches route, from time ago to this part. In spite of his previous 2011 releases (that were a deeper inside on shoegaze), this new title, “Pré-Natal”, taken from an upcoming tape on UUUTapes, is not just a re-born of the artist, but also a re-interpretation of experimental. If “Primeira Vez” is all like this sample, then it’s a prospect of a darker Gutter Parties style - obscure electronic mixed with ethnic chords. Loved it, as much as Luís Dourado’s artwork. The tape will be out next week.

  4. I don’t know if you knew that guy from “Tell Me Something Awesome Before I Go To Sleep” (talking about ex-Pink Priest, who late last year abandomned this identity and chose another, William Cody Watson) continues working, and early this year release an acclaimed tape (“Her Tusk Was Adorned With Rose Petals”), for whom this video was made. As he likes to do, it’s an interesting name for a sort of ambient track. Try the track, if you haven’t already, and if you do like it, listen the rest of them.

  5. In fact, when I started writing this post I realized that there were two artists exactly with the same name: Branches. The one featured here is Portuguese Pedro Rios, which I had misleaded with Canadian Jonny Dylan Hughes, issue for the next post. The reason of my confusion is that they both make awe-inspiring chillwave music. This tiny space wasn’t meant to be a chillwave blog, but I enjoy the movement mainly because it’s loosely attractive and induces tranquilizing states of mind induction side by side with the fact of being a good companionship while studying (CNS drugs at this time). Not saying anything useful, but as a end note, I hadn’t heard before of him, which is a shame, thinking that the Oporto’s musician has been making music at least since 2006. About “Alto Astral”, its best features for me were the samples collection (some made with Miguel Carvalho [ex-DOPO]), the ancient guitars and the slightly tropical aspect of some tracks. Pedro might me working on new stuff, so maybe there will be news soon.
